[edit] A Little Hypocrital?

$23 for a digital book? try charging $5 or make it free (bought Trent's Ghosts I-IV last week... google it). You embrace open culture, yet I see no .torrent file. On-Demand and I have to give you my email to download the first two chapters and you didn't even bother to send an activation link... you just want my email... why? throw in a CAPTCHA and skip the email. I'm glad you're donating all the proceeds to OLPC, but again, you're missing the boat. Information should be way cheaper in the digital age, when distribution is essentially free through P2P and your advertising budget is our opinions.

Sell the hard-copy for $20 or $30, sell signed copies for $50, it doesn't matter, but the digital copy shouldn't be more than $10 and preferably $5 or free. You also sell through Amazon, which doesn't accept PayPal... the dumbest decision ever, because some of us don't use credit cards.

And your store software is like jumping through hoops... there is no digital download that I could find, and I don't feel like creating an account with informedIT wtfever they are...

read your own book.

[edit] Response

While I understand your frustration many of the things you’re talking about are beyond the author’s control. When an author signs with a publisher the publisher controls the distribution channels and the pricing of the book, digital or otherwise. The only reason we asked for an email address was to alert our readers when the book was finally released, and even then it wasn’t a requirement all you had to do was hit the submit button and you were taken directly to the download page. Since publication we’ve taken down that page so there is nothing to fill out just free access to the information. For those of you who don’t use credit cards I recommend you use the new Paypal Plug-in [1] it lets you pay with Paypal on any site.
